Over forty years of building airfields that disappear.
Helipad is the only licensed temporary aerodrome provider in the UK. We arrive at a field, build an airport in it, run the busiest airspace in the world for a few days, and leave the grass as we found it.
Where it started
Helicopter & Aviation Services Ltd, as Helipad was known in its infancy, was established by Martyn Fiddler in 1983, when the Deputy Ranger of the Royal Parks needed a way to manage helicopter pilots landing at Ascot Racecourse. As helicopters grew in popularity in the early 80’s, venues would find them parked behind hedges and in car parks at their events, a problem that needed attention.
Helipad has grown from a Ford Granada and a hand held radio to the company it is today, creating and managing every major sporting event heliport in the UK and consistently leading the way in its field, pun intended.
What we have become
Today Helipad operates heliports across the UK for a multitude of events, from motorsport, horse racing, golf and music festivals, to private estates and permanent airfields, alongside off airfield landings, bespoke air traffic control, aviation and event fire cover, and equipment hire for operators and airfields.
Not only one of the oldest helicopter companies in the country, but also the most innovative. The technology, from the slot management and the passenger system, to air traffic control and drone detection, are all our own custom built pieces of software and systems, there is quite simply nothing like it that can handle the volume of flights seen at our heliports.
The same promise
We build it, run it, and take it away. Whether that means one movement onto a country estate or several thousand across a race weekend, the standard does not change, and neither does the field once we have gone.
